SEPTIC SERVICE FAQ’S
A septic tank uses a natural process to treat and dispose of the wastewater generated in your home. It typically consists of an inlet pipe from the home, a septic tank, a drainfield, and soil. The septic tank is a water tight container made of concrete, fiberglass, or polyethylene. As wastewater flows from the home into the tank, the heavier solids settle at the bottom forming a sludge layer, while the lighter solids, greases, and oils float to the top and form a scum layer. Compartments and a T-shaped outlet pipe prevents the sludge and scum from entering the drainfield area. The liquid wastewater, or effluent, flows from the tank into drainfield for further treatment by the soil. Traditional drainfields consisted of gravel-filled trenches which distributed effluent via perforated pipes. Today, we have alternative drainfield materials such as chambers, multipipe, styrofoam aggregates, and even drip irrigation.
A variety of factors come into play when determining the cost of a septic system; each of these will be discussed in detail with the customer on site. The type of system, size of drainfield, type of soil, depth to the water table, presence of limiting layers, fill requirements, disposal requirements, access to the project site, location of the existing feature such as wells and buildings which require setbacks, and the overall complexity of the project will be considered in determining the cost of a septic system.
Not to fear, most of the time it will only take a few hours after the job starts for your facilities to be back in use.
No. Roots of trees and shrubs can damage and clog your drainfield. Roots can also get into the septic tank, reducing its capacity and possibly blocking the inlet or outlet pipe of the septic tank. In some cases, roots can even crack your septic tank. Planting trees and shrubs on the drainfield will result in a costly repair.
No. Driving and parking cars on drainfields can cause damage, compaction issues, and even crush the drainfield, resulting in a costly repair.

Our Happy Customers
I called around to get my septic pumped as it had been over 3 years since the last pump out. I called Crotty Services and Wayne scheduled me for later that week as I was not in a rush. He called 2 days later and said he was in the area and if I wanted he could swing by and do the job. He came, did a great job, answered all my questions as I never seemed to be home when we have had it pumped out in the past. Wayne was very knowledgeable, friendly and professional. He was even a bit cheaper than other quotes. Highly recommend.
I recently hired Crotty Services , Inc. to inspect and pump out my septic tanks that were completely full and preventing my toilets from flushing. I can't say enough how glad I am to have found them! I called about 7 other companies that were either not available for more than a month, wouldn't come out to inspect only, didn't have the staff to perform the service and one of them even refused to schedule me to come out at all unless I paid over $500 by credit card over the phone. Finally, one of them recommended Crotty. They had the soonest availability and the best prices Wayne answered my call even though he was out of town and it was after normal business hours. He did not rush me off the phone, he listened patiently and let me know the soonest available time he could possibly come out. He was clear about what the cost would be and even gave me some tips for what I could do, until he could come, to relieve the backup to allow the toilets to flush when he could have pushed the "after hours" service to come out sooner, which is slightly (very reasonably) higher in cost. They had the soonest availability and the best prices I called on the day of the scheduled service to ask what time I could expect him to arrive and again, Wayne answered my call and informed me of his schedule and where I fit in. He actually called me later in the day just to give me a heads up that he was getting closer to arriving and how much longer it would be until he arrived. He inspected the system, explained everything thoroughly, and answered all my questions. I was told to by our realtor just under a year ago when I purchased this home that the tanks were pumped out. Wayne informed me that there is no chance that was true and also offered to back me up in every way possible should, I choose to take legal action. He also took the time to to call his office to research if my address was approved for grant money available to pay for a new septic system. When he ascertained that I was not on his current list, he provided me with the direct phone number for me to call further check for possible funds. That phone call led to a another call to the city of Melbourne which resulted in me now being added to the wait list for a zero interest, zero payment loan for a complete new septic system! Wayne pumped out both tanks for a better price than all others quoted me for just one and not only that, I did not have enough cash on hand and he agreed to let me catch up with him later to pay him for the remainder I owe him. Extremely knowledgeable, kind, honest, patient and thorough. I HIGHLY recommend him. Couldn't be happier with them. I won't call anyone else now, even if I have toilets backing up and have to wait for him!
Wayne was very knowledgeable and skillful with my install. He was careful not damage any of my pool piping. He also had to move one of my fruit trees and he did a masterfull job of not killing my tree. Everything is working perfectly after the install and we are very happy!
Hands down this is the best company I have ever worked with. Wayne goes above and beyond to help his clients with their septic needs even after he has provided service. I highly recommend this business.
Wayne & Ashlyn with Crotty Services Inc. are extremely knowledgeable, honest, and provide excellent customer service. They came out and serviced the septic tank and completed the necessary repairs (on short notice) in order to move forward with the purchase of the home. I will 100% refer them to anyone and will be calling them personally for my own furture needs.
